The Klingon Merchant and Support Fleet.
-----------------------------------------------

The Klingons, like many other races, depend on trade within and outside the empire in order to remain viable. Trade external to the empire is usually conducted with whatever races they are are currently allied with.

All Klingon merchant ships are powered by Neutronic reactor powered warp drive. This is in order to restrict the range and speed of these vessels, mainly because a lot are operated and crewed by subject races from within the empire.

Most bulk tranfers of goods and produce is by barges, which have a considerably increased payload capacity over the standard Klingon freighter. These are of modular build and are of a long established design featuring one of three possible propulsion sections that give a twin, tripple or quadruple warp engine configuration.

These propulsion sections are also utilised with other commercial and passenger carrying vessel types.

Both the medium and heavy barge are capable of towing a Klingon cruiser if required to do so. They are often employed ferrying warp nacelles, hull sections and booms between manufacturing facilities and construction yards. They are also employed during starbase construction for heavy parts transportation.

All barges and ferries are capable of atmospheric flight and planetary landing via anti-gravity and subspace mass reduction methods. However barges can only launch or land with a maximum of a single belly mounted pod due to structural considerations.

The Caravelle is a mercenary warship design based loosely on the standard Klingon ferry hull. These caravelles are hired by both Klingon and alien interests to provide security escorts where predation by pirates is expected and the Klingon internal security forces are reluctant to offer protection or require too large a bribe to render assistance. The armament is enough to outclass the average small pirate raider and can easily engage more than one of these vessels at the same time.

The pod shunter is employed where pods need to be trasfered through areas to hazzardous or difficult for barges to maneuver through, such as asteroid fields and belts. In such instances the pods will be parked in a collection area outside the hazzardous zone and ferried to and from the facility by the pod shunter. As with all Klingon vessels, these are armed to assist in localised defence.

The Dust Trawlers cruise the dust clouds, that surround asteroid belts and fields, collecting debris, sift it and deposit it into ore pods which are deposited in collecting areas ready to be taken to an ore processing facility. The ships have a tractor beam system that can be set to discriminate certain minerals and metals built into the front mounted scoop nozzle.

Because of their function, dust trawlers are desireable by pirates intent of conducting poaching trawls, apart from the contents of their attached ore pods.

Not all races operate purpose built trawlers. Some prefer the less efficient method of using a trawling pod attached to a freighter. Unscrupulous trawler owners have been known to conduct operation in post battle zones to collect precious materials from amongst the debris.

The Klingons are known to react harshly on anybody insulting the dead in such a way.

Steps to install:
-----------------
(1) Unpack zipped file.

(2) Move the model folder to Starfleet Comamnd/Assets/Models folder. If you're smart enough to have all the races in seperate folders then place this ship in the Federation folder.

(3) Copy the Shiplist fragment and paste it into the appropriate race and part of your Shiplist file in Starfleet Command/Assets/Specs/Sfbspc13.txt

(4) Modify the model folder references to suit your own SFC models directory structure.

NOTE: You must have at least one stock SFC game ship in human player squadrons to use this ship in multiplayer games. However, AI player squadrons are not bound by this restiction/problem and can have all three ships as K-BRG if desired.

These ship has been put under the Klingon F for Freighters part of the SFBSPC13.TXT, so that it can be called up for use in scripts using the FMSE (Fleet Model Script Editor) software add on by Eagle Eye Software. If you want to actually be able to select this ship, in normal SFC select ships, you will have to move it into the FF, CL, CA or DN part of the listing.
